Sight for the Blind in Nigeria
In Nigeria, over a million people suffer from blindness, and another four million are visually impaired. In 80% of these cases, the blindness and impairments are preventable or treatable. Unfortunately, for the overwhelming majority, care is out of reach.
Your gift can change that.
For nearly four decades, Palmer Memorial Hospital has served as a beacon of hope in Nigeria, delivering quality medical care to thousands who otherwise would have little or no access to healthcare. As the only functional secondary health facility in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, Palmer serves a population of over 200,000 people. Yet, despite the growing burden of eye disease in this region, there is currently no eye care facility within the community.
Palmer Memorial Hospital is establishing a new Eye Care Center that will diagnose and remedy these ailments, prescribe and offer eyeglasses, and provide surgical care for those needing it (especially cataract surgery).
This will require $120,000, which will fund:
- Medical equipment for diagnosis and eye surgery
- Furnishings and fittings for the new Eye Care Center
- Salaries for trained eye-care staff during the first year
- Essential operating costs to ensure safe, effective patient care
- Construction of the examination and procedure rooms
This investment allows the Eye Care Center to open fully equipped and staffed, and it is designed to become financially self-sustaining after 12-18 months.
Give Today — Your Gift Will Be Tripled
Thanks be to God, a generous Christian family has offered to match the first $40,000 two dollars to one, tripling the impact of every donation. For example, a $100 gift will become $300, and a $500 gift will become $1500. This match will continue until we reach the project cost*.
